Sergey Balovin

Sergey Balovin (5 July 1984, Voronezh, Russia) is an artist and curator. Over the last several years he has participated and actively organized numerous art projects throughout Russia as well as other countries. Balovin currently lives and works in Shanghai.
== Biography ==
Balovin was born and grew up in Voronezh, within a family of active geologists. He was initially trained in art at age eight within a children's school of arts. He has trained thirteen years in a social-teacher training college with a specialized focus on art. Balovin's last two courses of college were completed without his attending lectures, for one year. In 2000 he began education on Art Faculty in the Voronezh State Pedagogical University. In 2001, at age seventeen - and while still completing studies - Balovin began teaching a course of academic drawing at Children's School of Architecture and Design, "Studios Ya". Since 2002 he has organized exhibitions and art projects throughout Voronezh. In 2005, together with graduates from Art Faculty of VSPU and the Voronezh Art School, he established the public organization "Creative Workshops", whose primary goal became mutual aid in self-realizing creativity. From 2005 to 2006, Balovin organized a number of projects with participants of various associations. However, due to political dispute from various leaders, the organization ceased to exist even before the end its official registration in the State. Since 2006, Classroom #408 has become an art studio for the four year duration while Balovin conducted courses of painting and organized creative associative unions for students. Since 2008, Balovin has actively started working with European artists, during a stay in France and travels across Europe. In 2009, together with Luiz Morin, he has collaborated with French artists to organized the curated project, "Petit. Something small", which united some dozens artists from Russia, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Poland, China, USA and Brazil. In 2009, the first solo exhibition of Sergey Balovin opened in China, and 2010 has seen his official move to Shanghai as a resident, where he is now realizing the project "In-Kind Exchange". In 2011, Sergey Balovin has represented to the Shanghai public his newest project, "Unfinished Book".
